A Conversation on the Historical Context of Racism in America with Professor Eddie S. Glaude Jr.

NEW YORK, March 9, 2021  – In recognition of Black History Month, Proskauer, a leading international law firm, recently hosted the third installment of its A Path Forward speaker series. Featuring Professor Eddie S. Glaude Jr., the Professor of African American Studies at Princeton and an acclaimed author, in conversation with Proskauer partner and Chicago office head Nigel Telman, the virtual event explored the historical context of racism in America.

“Putting racism in its historical context is necessary for Americans to understand and acknowledge that it exists. Acknowledgement is necessary before change can begin,” said Nigel Telman.

The Firm welcomed our community of clients, alumni and employees, with over 700 people in attendance. Audience members presented questions on pre-recorded video, giving our featured speakers the opportunity to address issues such as, how can we best speak with children about racism?; how do we correct problems like neighborhood redlining?; and what is the historical context associated with the recent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol?

“I want us to run towards the trouble together. I am forthright and blunt about the issues that confront the nation precisely because I want us to clear the ground to imagine our relationship to each other differently,” said Professor Eddie Glaude Jr.
