As the school year draws to a close, we are proud to look back on a year of learning, growth and success for our Adopt-a-School students. Adopt-a-School is Proskauer’s signature education initiative for high school students, offering workshops to promote career and college readiness. From speed mentoring to life skills training and marketing workshops, the students took part in enriching experiences that aimed to educate and inspire them to reach their fullest potential and become future leaders.
Providing high-achieving public and charter school students with guidance and mentoring throughout their junior year, the program offers a range of activities and workshops led by Proskauer employees to support academic achievement.
“We were able to tell the students things we wish we knew at that time in our lives in order to help set them up for success,” said James Huffman, a tax associate who is one of the program leaders in Washington, D.C. In addition to helping students prepare for college applications and graduation, the program coached students for networking opportunities by teaching them the value of their own experiences and how to hone-in on the messages they want to convey and what makes their stories unique.
“We are hopeful that the students walk away from the program with an awareness of even more opportunities that are available to them,” said litigation associate Mike Hackett, one of the program leaders in Boston.
Proskauer mentored 80 students in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, DC, and Chicago. Thanks to the 122 generous volunteers who contributed 350+ hours of their time to the Adopt-a-School program in 2017-2018.
