June 5, 2001 (New York, NY) - Proskauer Rose LLP's labor and employment law department, one of the nation's most prestigious employment-law practices, and WeComply, Inc. have teamed up to offer the first and only fully customizable online training program for corporate managers on a critical issue in today's workplace -- "Preventing Discrimination and Harassment." The program will be previewed at the Corporate Legal Times Super-Conference in Chicago June 19-20, 2001, at Booth #12.
The program -- utilizing Proskauer's renowned employment-law content -- helps managers recognize and deal with all major forms of workplace discrimination and harassment, whether based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age or disability. The 45-minute tutorial features links to current news items, pop quizzes and interactive quiz/games to test users on their comprehension of the material. All of the program content is customizable, so that each company can insert its own anti-discrimination policies, modify the text to be industry- and company-specific, and emphasize issues of particular importance to its managers -- all from a simple web interface. The program tracks usage and scoring and reports this information to the company for compliance-auditing purposes.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, about 42,000 of the more than 250,000 civil cases filed in 1998 involved civil-rights-related issues, and nearly two-thirds of those cases alleged discrimination on the basis of race, gender, age or disability. Employee training on workplace discrimination and harassment issues is now mandatory in a few states and encouraged in others.
"Employee training is an essential component of every company's efforts to manage the risks of workplace discrimination and harassment, and the more custom-tailored the training is to a company's specific needs and corporate culture, the more effective it will be in the eyes of the law," said Paul Salvatore, the Proskauer employment-law partner who has spearheaded the program for the firm. "WeComply's 100%-customizable delivery system ensures that our content will be adaptable to every company's needs in a convenient and cost-effective way that is unmatched in today's marketplace," he said.
Additional programs, including a companion offering for nonmanagerial employees and programs on "Questionable Interview Questions" and "Code of Business Conduct Training," are in development.
