January 31, 2018 (New York) – Proskauer, along with the Hispanic National Bar Association and the Dominican Bar Association, sponsored a panel discussion on January 30 entitled, “International Perspectives on Immigration: Personal Reflections on the Impact of Immigration on Our Society.”
The New York Consuls General of Mexico, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Israel spoke together on a panel, relating individual stories of immigration and addressing some of the most pressing issues of the day regarding immigration in the United States, in Latin America and in Israel.
Of particular note, the Colombian Consul General spoke about the challenges her country is facing with the influx of more than 500,000 people fleeing Venezuela. The Israeli Consul General talked about having immigrated to Israel from Argentina and the challenges of absorbing refugees. Highlighting that two million New Yorkers are of Hispanic heritage, the Dominican Republic Consul General specified that one out of every eight New Yorkers is from the D.R. The Consul General of Mexico addressed the special issues facing Mexican immigrants in the U.S.
Pro bono partner Bill Silverman gave the welcoming remarks and introduced the panelists. Partner Gregg Mashberg worked with Bill in arranging the event.
