Delivering a generous dose of support and good cheer over the holidays, volunteers across six of Proskauer’s U.S. offices – Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York and Washington, D.C. – gave their time to those in need. Fifty-five Proskauer volunteers served more than 540 meals to veterans and the homeless during the holiday season.
In Los Angeles, in addition to serving meals, Proskauer sponsored a week’s worth of meals for the Ocean Park Community Center, a 50-year-old organization that provides social services and support programs for vulnerable populations.
In Washington, D.C. and Boston, volunteers served holiday meals at the local Fisher House Residence to military family members whose loved ones are being treated at the local VA medical facility. The firm’s partners, lawyers and staff provided comfort and shared in conversation.
For the second year in a row, Proskauer’s Boston volunteers also served veterans in early December at a catered dinner at the Massachusetts Bay Veterans Center, a Volunteers of America facility that provides transitional and permanent housing units that serve as an anchor of support for homeless veterans.
"I speak for everyone when I say that we got more out of serving the veterans that night than the veterans got from us,” said associate director of business development Steve Burke, who organized the Boston volunteers. “The absolute best part was sitting down and chatting with the vets. It was a moving and rewarding evening."
In New Orleans, our volunteers served lunch to the homeless at the Ozanam Inn, an organization that provides food, shelter, medical and dental assistance for the homeless. We also provided vouchers for women to gain entry into the New Orleans shelter system and collected food for the organization.
Proskauer’s Chicago office served a holiday meal to veterans residing at the Hope Manor I Residence, a Volunteers of America facility. Hope Manor provides housing for veterans and equips them with the tools to improve their lives over the long term.
The firm’s New York volunteers served meals to the homeless at the Bowery Mission and meals to veterans living in the Bronx at the Kingsbridge Terrace and Fordham Village supportive housing complexes.
