NEW YORK, April 25, 2022 – Proskauer, a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce that partner Michael Firestein has been named Bankruptcy Litigator of the Year for the West Coast for the third consecutive time by Benchmark Litigation.
As vice-chair of the Litigation Department, Michael handles a wide range of industry-defining matters as part of the Firm’s trial practice and works on behalf of clients across many sectors, including asset management, real estate, entertainment and fiduciary related matters.
Recently, Michael was one of the lead trial lawyers as part of the Firm’s bankruptcy and litigation team representing the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico that successfully procured confirmation of an historic Plan of Adjustment for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Employee Retirement System of the Government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the Puerto Rico Buildings Authority. That Plan of Adjustment resolved tens of billions of dollars of debt and unfunded pension obligations owed by the Commonwealth and two of its significant instrumentalities, and followed the successful confirmation of the Plan of Adjustment for COFINA in 2019, in which Michael also played a lead trial role.
The Firm was also named as Bankruptcy Firm of the Year for the West Coast and Labor and Employment Management Firm of the Year for the East Coast in Benchmark Litigation’s annual guide.
