Jerold D. Jacobson

Jerold D. Jacobson's knowledge and experience spans the entire spectrum of labor and employment law and has been enhanced by early career experiences as a fact-finder, mediator and arbitrator in the public employment sector and as an attorney for a large international union.  Jerold advises employers about National Labor Relations Board representation and unfair labor practice proceedings; union organization campaigns; federal, state and municipal employment discrimination administrative and court proceedings; affirmative action programs; application and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements; grievance and arbitration proceedings and related court proceedings to enjoin strikes and picketing, obtain stays of arbitration and vacate arbitration awards.

Additionally, he provides advice about employee welfare and pension plans, wage and hour laws and unemployment, disability and workers' compensation laws.  Jerold also devotes substantial time to serving as chief management spokesperson in collective bargaining negotiations in the business and not-for-profit sectors of the economy.  The business clients Jerold has represented include companies in the airfreight and trucking, airline, construction, leasing, real estate, jewelry manufacturing, diagnostic laboratory, apparel manufacturing, printing, restaurant, supermarket and securities industries.

Jerold has written articles on the rights and obligations of health care professionals under the NLRA and, among other subjects, has spoken about collective bargaining, discrimination, sexual harassment, AIDS, unfair labor practice proceedings, discipline and discharge, progressive discipline and documentation, employment-at-will and reductions in force, the ADA and the WARN Act.

Jerold is a former Chair of the Advisory Board of the School of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Advisory Board of the Holocaust Study Center at the University of Vermont where, for many years, he has sponsored the annual Professor Raul Hilberg Holocaust Lecture, in which the world's leading Holocaust Scholars have participated.
