In July, Proskauer summer associate Khushi Kanda completed a five-week secondment with Bain Capital, working alongside their general counsel, Credit and Proskauer alumna (2006-2015), Sabrina Rusnak-Carlson. The secondment was made possible by Proskauer's longstanding relationship with Bain Capital and was coordinated by Gary Creem, co-head of the Firm's Private Credit Group and a Bain Capital relationship lawyer, underscoring the important role that alumni play in developing the Firm's future lawyers.
Khushi, a rising third-year law student at Boston University School of Law, first joined Proskauer in summer 2025 as a first-year law student before returning in June as a 2026 summer associate.
During her time at Bain Capital, Khushi contributed to several matters, collaborated with lawyers and business professionals, and saw her recommendations incorporated into final work products. For example, she worked on a Section 15(c) memorandum from start to finish, researching and coordinating efforts to develop, compile, and organize responses from several teams, including Investor Relations, Compliance, and Finance. The memorandum was presented to the registered fund’s board of directors. Khushi also reviewed side letters for U.S. and international collateralized loan obligations and worked directly with law firms, including Proskauer, to facilitate closings. She drafted and finalized an assignment agreement related to a partnership equity transfer.

Khushi’s secondment is part of Proskauer's Silver Scholar Program, which gives selected summer associates firsthand experience working within a client's legal department.

Given how much I learned from that process, I thought it was a particularly valuable project for Khushi — not only for the breadth of the business and regulatory issues it covers, but also because of the current Section 36(b) litigation in the space. Khushi approached the assignment with remarkable thoughtfulness and sophistication, and it was a pleasure to work alongside her.”
For Khushi, the secondment offered an inside look at the role of in-house counsel while strengthening ties between Proskauer colleagues and alumni. During the secondment, Bain Capital's legal team praised her work. Khushi described the experience as one of the highlights of her summer. It gave her the opportunity to take initiative, work across legal and business matters, collaborate with internal Bain Capital teams and outside counsel, and make substantive contributions to corporate matters.
