Michael Shelton

Michael Shelton is an associate in the firm’s Tax Department and a member of the Private Funds Group. His practice focuses on tax planning matters related to the formation of and investments in U.S. and non-U.S. venture capital funds, buyout funds, funds-of-funds, secondary funds, and other investment partnerships.  Prior to joining Proskauer, Michael worked at another prominent law firm advising on a variety of U.S. federal tax matters related to private investment funds, mergers and acquisitions, and financing matters.

Michael earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he received the Edwin S. Cohen Tax Prize, awarded to the graduating student demonstrating superior tax scholarship.  He earned a B.S. in accounting and a master’s degree in business taxation from the University of Southern California.  Prior to law school, Michael worked as a CPA in the international tax group of a big four accounting firm.
