Benjamin Freeman

Benjamin Freeman is a partner in Proskauer’s Sports Group.  Benjamin works on a variety of corporate and transactional matters, focusing primarily on media and commercial deals.  Throughout his career, he has guided professional and collegiate sports organizations through their most significant transactions.  He has extensive experience working across the media industry with both linear television networks and direct-to-consumer streaming platforms.

Benjamin’s experience includes advising:

  • the Big Ten Conference on its media rights agreements with CBS, FOX and NBC;
  • the United States Golf Association on its media rights agreements with NBCUniversal;
  • the Big 12 Conference on its media rights agreements with ESPN and FOX;
  • UNIQLO on its field naming rights partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers;
  • the NFL in the sale of NFL Network and other media assets to ESPN;
  • the NWSL on its media rights agreements with CBS, ESPN, Amazon, Scripps and Victory+;
  • the Big East Conference on its media rights agreements for coverage on FOX, NBC, TNT Sports and ESPN platforms;
  • The CW on its media rights agreements with the Pac-12 Conference and Mountain West Conference;
  • FanDuel on its RSN naming rights and media partnership with Main Street Sports Group; and
  • the Washington Nationals on its partnership with BetMGM.

Benjamin has also represented sports teams and leagues, including the NBA, NHL, WNBA and MLS, in various corporate matters, including team ownership transfers.

Benjamin earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law, where he served as co-president of the Sports & Entertainment Law Society.  While at Duke, he worked as a legal department intern in MLB’s Office of the Commissioner.

Prior to law school, Benjamin was a business analyst at Sports Media Advisors, where he worked on matters in the sports, television and digital media industries.
