In partnership with John Jay, Proskauer created an annual seminar series called Lawyering for Social Justice, focused on in-depth discussions concerning immigration, voting rights, criminal justice reform, and gun safety, among other topics, as they relate to the law and our nation’s history. The program is led by our Pro Bono Partner Bill Silverman and our Director of Corporate Social Responsibility Wendy Dessy. We also discuss the law school application process as well as the demands of law school and various legal career paths. Students are introduced to associates, partners, and external guests throughout the semester, including a law school admissions officer from a local, high-ranking law school. Beyond these discussions, our speakers serve as mentors, guiding and assisting students with respect to law school, internships, and getting a better understanding of the many fields of law. In 2025, our series expanded to include small-group workshops designed to help students succeed.
Since launching the program in 2017, 173 Proskauer volunteers have worked with 415 students, and led 33 workshops.
