Ana Vermal is a partner in the Litigation Department. She is a member of the International Arbitration, Latin America and Private Equity & Hedge Fund Litigation Practice Groups.

An Argentine and Spanish national, Ana is qualified to practice in both New York and Paris. She is fluent in English, French, Spanish and German. Having lived in Germany, Spain, the United States and France, Ana brings a truly multicultural and multilingual skill set to her practice.

Ana's practice focuses on complex international arbitration and litigation proceedings involving joint ventures, acquisitions, construction projects, licensing agreements and distribution relationships, as well as a variety of other international commercial agreements.

Ana acts as counsel and arbitrator in international arbitrations involving corporations from the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia and held under the arbitration rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the American Arbitration Association’s International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), and also has substantial experience handling arbitrations under other international arbitration rules, including those of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association, the Swiss Chambers of Commerce and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

Current and recent matters include representation of:

  • A Panamanian investment company in an ICDR arbitration based in New York with its joint venture partner concerning the management and conduct of their mobile telecommunications business in Panama
  • European distributor of Japanese diagnostics devices in an arbitration carried out under the Japanese Arbitration Association Rules in Kyoto

  • European hospitality group in an ICC arbitration in Spanish, in Paris, relating to the acquisition of an Argentine Company

  • U.S. diversified holding company in ICC arbitration in Barbados seeking to enforce the sale of a undersea cable telecommunications company

  • Colgate-Palmolive in a series of ICC arbitrations in Geneva with one of its North African distributors and local manufacturers arising out of the termination and wrapping-up of their business relationship
  • U.S. minority joint venture partner in an ICDR arbitration in Paris arising out of joint venture agreement breaches

  • Major Asian construction company in an ICC arbitration in Paris against an African government following the termination of a construction contract to rebuild the country’s main highways

  • U.S. petroleum company in an ICC arbitration in Paris arising out of oil drilling contracts in Middle Eastern country
  • German industrial conglomerate in an ICC arbitration in a complex post-acquisition dispute with a U.S. company in Paris
