Nayirie K. Mehdikhani is an associate in the Labor & Employment Law Department. Nayirie works with clients on labor and employment issues affecting the workplace in a variety of fields including the public sector, sports and entertainment, manufacturing, news media, technology, fashion/retail, arts, and not-for-profit.
In traditional labor matters, Nayirie represents clients in collective bargaining negotiations, compliance with labor laws, arbitrations and matters before the National Labor Relations Board. Nayirie defends employers in employment matters including pay equity, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, wage and hour issues, WARN issues, and workplace investigations. Nayirie also counsels clients in revising their employment policies and procedures and provides advice related to strategic planning of the workforce, reductions in force, WARN compliance and corporate transactions.
Nayirie's pro bono practice involves work in conjunction with the International Refugee Assistance Project and the Legal Aid Society. Nayirie has also served as a junior trustee of the Citizens Budget Commission in New York.
Previously, Nayirie served as Assistant General Counsel at the New York City Mayor's Office of Labor Relations, where she represented the Mayor and City agencies in every phase of labor administrative proceedings including arbitration, improper practice matters and collective bargaining negotiations. During law school, Nayirie was a teaching assistant for the class, "Labor and Employment Law" at the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations, a legal extern at NIKE, Inc., and a graduate intern in Business Affairs and Development at ESPN, Inc.
