Jay M. Cohen is an associate in the Labor & Employment Law Department. He represents clients across many different industries, including professional sports leagues and teams, news and media outlets, financial institutions, hospitals, and private universities, among others. Jay advises clients in all aspects of labor-management relations, including administration of collective bargaining agreements, arbitration, matters before the National Labor Relations Board, and related litigation. His experience also encompasses a wide range of employment matters, including employment discrimination and breach of restrictive covenants.
Additionally, he has assisted several Major League Baseball Clubs in the preparation of salary arbitration cases.
Prior to joining Proskauer, Jay served as a law clerk to the Honorable Thomas P. Griesa of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Jay graduated from Harvard Law School in 2015, where he was a member of the winning team in the Ames Moot Court Competition. He was also the executive editor for submissions for the Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law, a teaching assistant for a course on contract drafting in sports law, and a member of the Board of Student Advisers. While in law school, Jay spent time as a legal intern in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, at the National Football League, and at the National Basketball Association.
