Andrej Barbic is senior patent counsel in the Litigation Department and a member of the Firm’s Intellectual Property and Life Sciences Patent Groups. Dr. Barbic’s practice focuses on patent counseling and portfolio development, IP due diligence for M&A transactions and public security offerings, post-grant proceedings in the United States Patent Office (USPTO) and pharmaceutical patent litigation. His clients range from small biotechnology start-ups to large pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Barbic regularly counsels clients on legal and business aspects of patent and freedom-to-operate strategies related to small molecules, cell and antibody therapies, protein engineering, gene editing, diagnostics and other areas of biotechnology.
He serves as the co-chair of Contested Matters Committee of the Boston Patent Law Association, which is responsible for post-grant proceedings.
Dr. Barbic has conducted research in DNA and protein structure, interactions of antibiotics with DNA, use of enzymes in organic solvents, manufacture of pharmaceutical formulations, plasma physics and bioinformatics.
Prior to joining Proskauer, Dr. Barbic was a partner at a Boston law firm in its intellectual property and information technology groups.
