Proskauer's Florida office opened in 1977 in Boca Raton, a city known for its concentration of corporate headquarters. The rapidly growing office has 30 lawyers and brings clients the in-depth resources of an international law firm combined with the Florida market experience and efficiencies of a locally based firm.
The full-service Florida office is organized into seven practice areas:
Personal Planning The Personal Planning practice brings special insight into the needs of dual-residence Floridians. The Personal Planning partners in the Florida office are Albert W. Gortz, who established the Florida office for the Firm over 25 years ago, and David Pratt, a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and Florida Bar Board Certified attorney in wills, trusts, estates and taxation. The group's services cover the spectrum of all matters related to personal planning, including estate planning and administration, trusts and probate, on the domestic and international levels.
Transactional In the Transactional practice, the Florida office services clients' complete corporate and real estate needs. Headed by partner Christopher C. Wheeler, this group handles sophisticated matters for many of the region's national companies, as well as working with entrepreneurs, banks and other institutions and developers. The Florida office counsels public and private corporations and other entities regarding corporate, securities and partnership matters, mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, public and private offerings, financial institution regulatory matters and real estate and related environmental matters.
Labor and Employment The Labor and Employment Law practice represents and advises employers in every facet of this crucial area. It is headed by partner Allan H. Weitzman, a Florida Bar Board-Certified attorney with more than three decades of concentration in this specialty. This practice ranges from advising clients regarding personnel policy planning and employee benefits to avoidance of litigation in allegations of discrimination or employee termination and other employment matters. Primarily, however, our employment lawyers litigate claims arising out of the workplace in federal and state courts, as well as arbitration.
Litigation The Florida litigators, headed by partner Matthew Triggs, handle complex civil litigation before federal and state courts and are experienced in alternative dispute resolution. The diversity of backgrounds and experience among the Florida litigators, together with substantive support from other Firm offices, allows client representation in a wide range of legal matters, including legal issues involving complex commercial disputes, securities litigation and arbitration, estate and trust law, real estate disputes, corporate law, financial services and contract claims.
Health Care The Firm's Health Care Department, with nearly 20 attorneys located in the Boca Raton, New York and Washington offices, represents virtually every type of participant in the health care industry. Marcy Hahn-Saperstein, located in the Boca Raton office, specializes in structuring and negotiating a wide variety of corporate transactions and general operation and administrative contracts, such as employment and vendor agreements, on behalf of health care clients. In addition, she drafts and negotiates managed care contracts, including third party administrator agreements, pharmacy benefit agreements, participating provider agreements and group insurance agreements on behalf of managed care entities, self insured funds, employers and practitioners. She also provides advice and assistance to health care clients with respect to a broad range of licensure and other regulatory matters, as well as third party payor reimbursement issues.
Community Service The Florida office's community commitments are extensive, with attorneys in leadership capacities in numerous organizations. Among the primary organizations in which they play a role are the Jewish Federation, the NCCJ (National Conference of Community and Justice), Florida Atlantic University and the Boca Raton Community Hospital. Both Al Gortz and Chris Wheeler have been honored by the NCCJ with their Silver Medallion Brotherhood Award.
