Praveena Nallainathan is co-head of the Immigration & Nationality Group concentrating on corporate immigration, nationality, and consular law. Her experience includes managing U.S. immigration matters for global companies in the finance, fashion, pharmaceutical, and IT industries, as well as for leading hospitals, newspapers, media companies, and non-profit organizations. She advises in-house attorneys, human resources, and business managers on best practices and strategies in obtaining U.S. temporary visas and lawful permanent residence on behalf of their employees. Praveena has experience in a wide range of matters including:

  • Developing creative approaches for EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3 green card processes.
  • Conducting internal I-9 audits and providing counsel on I-9 compliance and E-Verify matters.
  • Assisting companies to develop and implement comprehensive immigration policies.
  • Advising on the immigration implications of acquisitions, mergers, and new company formations.
  • Obtaining O-1 extraordinary ability visas and permanent residence for world-class business executives, outstanding researchers, doctors, and fashion designers.
  • Preparing corporate training programs for H-3 and J-1 program participants.
  • Outbound foreign visas, and developing relationships with local counsel in U.K., India, China, Singapore, Australia and Brazil.

Praveena is a member of Proskauer’s Pro Bono Initiative Committee and actively promotes pro bono service throughout the firm. She serves as a technical resource to Proskauer attorneys working on asylum cases and for the Iraqi Human Rights Pro Bono Project. In recognition of this work, she received Proskauer’s Golden Gavel Award and the Pro Bono Book Award. Praveena also works closely with Kids in Need of Defense to represent undocumented children. She is active in community services and serves as an Associate Board Member of the New York Legal Assistance Group as well as a mentor with the New York City Children’s Corp.

Before joining Proskauer in 2006, Praveena served as an administrator at the New York City’s Administration for Children Services where she was awarded “Rookie of the Year” by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in recognition of her leadership in improving the NYC child welfare system. While at law school, she received the prestigious Eagleton Government Fellowship from the Eagleton Institute of Politics in New Jersey. Praveena gained diverse experience in immigration law, interning with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New York City and the Executive Office for Immigration Review’s Immigration Court in Newark. Praveena has authored several articles on immigration and nationality law which have been featured in major publications including New Jersey Law Journal, HR Advisor, Law360 and Immigration Law Today.
