Joseph Cha is a Partner in the Corporate Department. Having been based in China, Hong Kong and Singapore for more than 12 years at a leading U.S.-based venture capital firm and other law firms, he has a diverse international legal practice with corporate, advisory and international dispute resolution experience in many of the major countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

Joseph currently concentrates his practice on private equity and fund formation in Asia, particularly China. Following the life cycle of the growth of private companies, he represents fund investors, fund sponsors and private companies. He represents a number of leading Asia-based LPs in their fund investments and provides key support to a number of Asia-based sponsors in the formation, funding, and operation of complex, multi-tiered venture and private equity funds, including China-based PRC-denominated venture capital funds. He also helps these funds and a select list of private companies with their major transactions.

In addition to this concentration, he represents U.S. and Asian private companies in structuring intricate and novel investments and acquisitions, and in their development of new markets and businesses in Asia and the PRC. His recent transactions include a major investment by a NASDAQ-listed company in satellite broadcasting and telecommunications and the largest private equity real estate transaction in Shanghai.

Joseph also has lead international arbitration and dispute resolution matters in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea and Malaysia, handling cases under the auspices of some of the leading arbitral centers in Asia, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Hong Kong International Arbitral Centre, and Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). Representative cases include a U.S.$5 million ICC arbitration between a major Chinese semiconductor manufacturer and a Japanese trading company involving the shipment of goods and breach of contract and a U.S.$100 million SIAC arbitration between a NASDAQ-listed oil services company and a Korean oil driller relating to delay and disruption in the construction of an offshore oil platform.
