George Samuel Cleaver is an Associate in the Labor & Employment Law Department in the Los Angeles office. He helps employers analyze and resolve employment disputes through negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, and litigation. Sam defends employers against employment discrimination and wrongful termination claims in a variety of forums, including state and federal courts and arbitration panels, as well as before regulatory organizations. He also defends employers in wage and hour class actions and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) collective actions. In addition, Sam regularly helps to resolve employment disputes through negotiation and mediation, both before and after a lawsuit has been filed.

Sam provides advice and counseling to employers on a wide variety of subjects, including wage and hour issues, class action avoidance, and implementation of anti-sexual harassment and anti-discrimination policies. He also prepares employee handbooks and other employment-related materials. He has authored articles on accommodating new mothers in the workplace as well as the proper documentation of sexual harassment investigations.

During law school, Sam worked as an extern to an administrative judge in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s Federal Hearings Office. He also engaged in pro bono activities for not-for-profit organizations, including drafting and updating employee handbooks and counseling on compliance with state and federal employment laws and wage and hour regulations. He continues to provide pro bono counseling to not-for-profits, including providing sexual harassment training and reviewing employee handbooks.
