Frank Saviano is a partner in the Corporate Department and a member of the Sports Law Group.

Frank has a broad-based corporate practice that primarily focuses on clients in the sports and media industries. He represents these clients in a wide array of corporate matters, including media rights, acquisitions and sales, private equity investments and related transactions, joint ventures, arena and stadium development, financings, sponsorships and other significant commercial transactions.

Frank's experience includes representing the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League, Major League Soccer (MLS), National Football League, NASCAR, the United States Golf Association (USGA), the ATP Tour, the WTA Tour, IndyCar, the BIG EAST Conference and the Pac-12 Conference, as well as a number of professional sports teams, private equity firms, media networks and content distribution companies, in their significant transactional matters.

Some recent examples of Frank’s significant representative matters include:

  • NASCAR in the development of its landmark charter membership system with its Sprint Cup Series teams
  • NASCAR in its media rights agreements with Fox and NBC
  • MLS and the United States Soccer Federation in its media rights agreements with ESPN, Fox and Univision
  • USGA in its media rights agreement with Fox
  • Pac-12 Conference in its media rights agreements with ESPN and Fox and the launch of the Pac-12 Network
  • BIG EAST Conference in the establishment of the “new” BIG EAST Conference, including its media rights agreement with Fox, agreement with Madison Square Garden and negotiations with incoming member institutions
  • Detroit Pistons in arena lease negotiations for their relocation to the Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit 

  • Palace Sports and Entertainment (the holding company of the Detroit Pistons) in the formation of 313 Presents, an entertainment joint venture with the Illitch family to manage certain entertainment venues in the greater Detroit area

  • Soccer United Marketing (the media and marketing affiliate of MLS) in an equity investment by Providence Equity Partners
  • Bruin Sports Capital and RedBird Capital Partners in a transaction with the National Football League to form a new holding company to run the NFL On Location event and hospitality business
  • Bruin Sports Capital in its acquisition of deltatre, a sports digital media company
  • NBA in its acquisition and subsequent sale of the New Orleans Hornets
  • Shahid Khan in the acquisition of the Jacksonville Jaguars
  • NBA in various controlling ownership transfers, including Steve Ballmer’s acquisition of the Los Angeles Clippers

Frank was named to SportsBusiness Journal's 2015 "Forty Under 40" list and Leaders in Sport’s 2017 “Leaders Under 40” list, which recognize the most influential executives in the sports industry under the age of 40. He was also named to Variety’s 2017 Dealmakers Elite New York list, which recognizes East Coast power players for their work in sports and media. In addition, Frank has been recognized as an “Associate to Watch” in Sports Law by Chambers USA, where clients describe him as “extraordinary” and a “superstar.”
