Daniel B. Winslow is a Senior Counsel in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department, resident in the Boston office. As both a trial lawyer and problem solver with broad leadership experience in the private and public sectors, he concentrates his practice in three areas: trial, outside general counsel services and corporate strategies.

Prior to joining Proskauer, Dan was a partner at Duane Morris LLP. He also previously worked as chief legal counsel to then-Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, as well as a presiding justice and appellate division justice in the Massachusetts Trial Court.

As a trial lawyer and a former Massachusetts trial court judge, Dan understands the value of creative advocacy in persuading a judge or jury to decide in a client's favor. His trial practice encompasses complex civil and criminal cases for individuals and corporations, including bet-the-company litigation and ADR involving commercial disputes, state and federal administrative law, corporate compliance, intellectual property, consumer protection, products liability, procurement and white-collar criminal defense. He represents clients in a range of industries, including construction, energy, environmental, insurance, automotive and real estate.

Dan's practice also encompasses outside general counsel services. As the former chief legal counsel to former Governor Romney, he oversaw a team of more than 800 in-house and outside counsel, the largest legal practice in the Commonwealth. As outside general counsel, Dan has assisted corporate clients in areas as varied as HIPAA, patent prosecution and litigation, trademark and copyright, telecommunications, investment banking, internet and entertainment law, internal investigations, LNG and energy law, project development, health care law, litigation audits and improving outside counsel procurement practices.

Innovation is the key to corporate competitiveness in the global marketplace. In the corporate strategies area of his practice, Dan works closely with management to identify and achieve innovative results, cost savings and revenue maximization. He developed the model Economical Litigation Agreement — the “civil litigation prenup” — that has been used by major corporations to reduce the cost of business litigation. Whether designing a conflict prevention and resolution strategy, coordinating legal and media strategies, creating legislative or administrative public policy solutions, developing internal compliance and training policies, assessing and preventing risk, or capturing opportunity, Dan is a lawyer who gets things done.
