Overview
With the passage of sweeping U.S. health care reform legislation, virtually all businesses and individuals are now being confronted with new and complex challenges regarding health insurance coverage and related employee benefits, employment law and other legal issues that will have far-reaching consequences – economically and otherwise. There certainly is no doubt that this new law represents a paradigm shift in the employee benefits field as well as for health care providers. Indeed, weighing in at 2,409 pages, this statute promises to be nearly as important, if not more so, than the passage of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974.
In order to deploy effective strategies to assist our clients with prompt and effective legal compliance with all of the legislation’s nuances, we have created a Health Care Reform Task Force, an interdisciplinary team of lawyers that will assist clients in preparing for, and confronting, the historic and sweeping changes that this new law is expected to engender. The Task Force – comprised of more than a dozen lawyers from our Employee Benefits, Executive Compensation & ERISA Litigation Practice Center; Health Care Department; Labor & Employment Law Department; and Tax Department – is charged with analyzing and synthesizing all aspects of this new law (and the regulations that eventually will be promulgated to interpret it), and for developing approaches to address the myriad issues raised by health care reform.
In the coming days, weeks and months, through both the Task Force and other firmwide health care reform initiatives, we will continue to share information in a timely manner, along with our analyses and guidance on these developments with our clients and friends, in order to assist them in making the most well-informed decisions for their companies and employees. Through continued focused client alerts, research papers, seminars and other tools, we will ensure that you are equipped with the most current and useful information available. We encourage you to check this page regularly for the most up-to-date information, resources and analysis.
