Clients of Proskauer Rose LLP involved in international business and foreign investment regularly turn to us to represent them in international arbitration proceedings throughout the world. A team of international arbitration lawyers in our New York, Washington and Paris offices, possessing the ability to handle cases requiring fluency in English, French, Spanish and German, represents clients in international arbitrations involving both private parties and state enterprises. We also assist our clients in judicial disputes related to international arbitration before state and federal courts in the United States, including actions to enforce arbitration agreements and awards under the U.N. Convention on Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards.

Our international arbitration practice reflects the worldwide scope of our transactional and commercial practice. Recent and pending cases include matters in Switzerland, France, the United States, Canada, Singapore, Yugoslavia and Colombia, and fall under the international arbitration rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, the American Arbitration Association, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. Our team is also fully conversant with the arbitration procedures for Internet domain name disputes and online arbitration that were established by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and is equipped to handle such disputes, either as counsel or as party-appointed arbitrators. The group also includes an internationally recognized authority on Internet law, whose writings in that field are available by contacting the Firm directly and through its website.

Our clients are also increasingly calling upon us to provide alternative dispute resolution  (ADR) clauses for international agreements, and a significant component of our practice entails drafting and reviewing such clauses, with appropriate recommendations concerning institutional or ad hoc arbitration, confidentiality and trade secret protection, and potential first use of non-binding informal ADR methods such as mediation.

Our recent roster of international arbitration cases includes such diverse subject matter as a pharmaceuticals joint venture in Central Europe, hydroelectric power supply in North America, the transfer of control of one of the largest banks in South America, an international performing arts gala in the People's Republic of China, the construction of oil pipelines in Africa, pharmaceutical license agreements, and a luxury watch distribution agreement.

Ever-mindful of the constant evolution of this field, especially as it concerns intellectual property disputes, we are active participants in such organizations as the USCIB Arbitration Committee, the London Court of International Arbitration, the CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, the ABA Section of International Law and Practice, the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, the International Bar Association, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the Corporate Counsel Committee of the American Arbitration Association.
