The Personal Planning Department at Proskauer Rose LLP works with individuals and families to design customized personal planning programs. For more information about this practice area, contact:

Drawing on a century of experience in trusts and estates practice and buttressed by the skills of their colleagues in other areas at Proskauer Rose LLP, our Personal Planning Department is especially prepared to meet the diverse needs of its individual clients, be they business entrepreneurs, corporate executives, real estate venturers, creative or performing artists, sports figures, collectors of fine arts, or investors in securities, including those with significant holdings in other states or countries.

With the advice and assistance of our corporate and business tax lawyers, we can suggest practical programs to minimize estate, gift and generation-skipping taxes by means of transfers at or before death; to provide liquidity after death through stock redemptions, partnership buyouts and life insurance; to insulate business assets from the claims of personal creditors; and to achieve our clients' other objectives with a minimum of tax and administrative cost. We have represented clients engaged in estate and trust litigation and have given advice in connection with disputes arising out of the administration of estates and trusts.

The Personal Planning Department is also responsive to needs of traditional areas serviced by other departments of the Firm. For example, Proskauer's growing emphasis on arts and entertainment law is increasingly reflected in our Personal Planning Department. We are particularly skilled in suggesting and implementing means by which valuable and complex intellectual properties can be preserved and protected for the benefit of a client's survivors without jeopardizing the integrity of those properties.

Proskauer's strong real estate practice is one of the particularly important resources for our Personal Planning lawyers, who are called upon to advise clients as to the disposition of their real estate holdings, both during their lifetimes and at death. A typical plan might provide for the orderly sale of such interests or for a sophisticated means of preserving them intact, in spite of a multiplicity of heirs and an ever-demanding tax law.

Our clients have come to expect the breadth and depth of knowledge of our Personal Planning lawyers and paralegal staff; but equally important to them is the knowledge that their plans will be as straightforward and workable as possible. Our programs are practical as well as imaginative and our documents are intelligible as well as intelligent, employing devices whose effectiveness has been recognized by reliable authority; yet tailored to each client's specific circumstances. This combination of simplicity and conservatism sets us apart from many other practitioners.
