Overview
For more than 30 years, our Washington, DC lawyers have been assisting clients as they navigate the laws and regulations that impact every aspect of their businesses, from intellectual property rights to labor and employment issues, health care, corporate transactions and regulatory matters.
We play a key role in the firm’s internationally renowned labor and employment practice. Our lawyers include former government officials with significant experience shaping and interpreting the legislative and regulatory matters affecting the operations and policies of the nation’s employers. Not only do we provide sound advice to keep businesses up-to-date and compliant but are also called upon to testify before Congress and offer consultation on proposed new laws and regulations.
In addition, the office is home to a group of lawyers from our Employee Benefits, Executive Compensation & ERISA Litigation Practice Center. At a time when the legislative and regulatory environment presents especially complex and growing challenges to both employers and employee benefit plans, they advise on issues related to corporate transactions as well as COBRA, qualified defined contribution and defined benefit plans, nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, and health and welfare plans. They also represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation as well as in ERISA litigation matters.
The office is a cornerstone of the firm’s leading Health Care Group, providing services to nursing homes, long-term care facilities and other for-profit institutions. We count some of the nation’s largest health care providers among our clients for regulatory, transactional and litigation services in a field that is more complex – and prominent – than ever before.
Our corporate practitioners handle transactions and financings for a range of clients with a particular focus on the technology, private equity and venture capital sectors. In addition, they take advantage of our location in the nation’s capital to help clients resolve or avoid difficulties with the SEC, FTC and DOJ Antitrust Division and navigate the maze of regulations and bureaucratic politics that can impact securities offerings and mergers and acquisitions.
Our intellectual property lawyers have been involved in groundbreaking cases that lie at the nexus of new technology and the rights of content owners and play a leading role in legislative initiatives involving copyright. They are also heavily involved on the transactional side of the business, helping clients to identify and take advantage of opportunities to exploit their own content and fuel future growth.
Individuals facing white collar charges and businesses subjected to investigations and enforcement activity that could be fatal to operations can rely on our experienced corporate defense litigators. They know how to deal with the constantly changing competitive and regulatory environment affecting all segments of the business community. Highly regarded by clients and peers alike for our ability to quietly turn down the heat and minimize consequences, we provide zealous yet tactful defense when it really matters.
