When Proskauer was founded in 1875 in New York City, its primary focus was on real estate, handling transactional and other matters for local businesses, and estate work for wealthy families. Now, more than a century later, we have 13 offices around the world and more than 50 practice groups.
Our New York office is at the heart of it all, encompassing virtually every practice in which the firm is involved. We represent multinational corporations, not-for-profit institutions and individuals in corporate, litigation, labor and employment, real estate, health care, private client services, tax and intellectual property matters.
The office is home to some of the firm’s leading practices, including one of the most comprehensive and sophisticated sports law groups in the world, which Chambers USA recently named Sports Practice of the Year. This group spans our corporate, labor and litigation capabilities and represents the world’s most prominent professional leagues, including the National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hockey League and Major League Soccer.
In addition, our labor and employment team is consistently recognized as one of the best for its representation of some of the leading institutions and organizations in New York, including the Metropolitan Transit Authority, The New York Times, New York Public Library, New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center, Columbia University, the Broadway League and the City of New York itself.
Our litigation practice has been dubbed a “powerhouse” by Crain’s New York Business and is one of the top trial groups in the city. In addition, our lawyers practicing in false advertising, entertainment, patent, copyright and insurance litigation have been recognized as among the best in the U.S.
The real estate practice continues to be an integral part of the office and has closed some of the highest-profile transactions in New York in recent years. The sophistication this practice brings to the full range of matters in which it is involved — transactions, financings, lease negotiations, and development and construction matters — makes it one of the most respected in the Big Apple.
Likewise, our private equity and mergers & acquisitions practices have been recognized for their ability to complete complicated deals on behalf of the world’s leading funds, multinational corporations and investment banks. This ability, coupled with those of our finance, capital markets, intellectual property transactional and life sciences practices, makes our corporate group one of the city’s most nimble and multi-faceted.
Our health care practice is widely known for its work in corporate and regulatory matters for some of the industry’s leading players, and our private client services practice is considered one of the best of its kind for its representation of high-net-worth individuals and prominent organizations. The same goes for our executive compensation and tax practices, which represent some of the world’s leading executives, corporations, institutions and funds in the full range of sophisticated matters.
