January 18, 2007 (Washington, DC) - Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with more than 750 lawyers worldwide, is proud to announce that its Privacy Law Blog (privacylaw.proskauer.com) has been selected for inclusion in the Library of Congress historic collection of Internet materials. Launched in 2007, the blog is authored by lawyers in the firm's international Privacy and Data Security Practice Group and covers recent case law and regulatory activity, new developments, and important issues in the area.
The selection of the Privacy Law Blog is part of the Library of Congress's traditional function of acquiring, cataloging, preserving and serving materials of historical importance to the Congress and the American people. For several years the Library of Congress has collected digital materials and websites related to the law and government. The content is made available to researchers onsite at library facilities as well as on its public access website.
"This is a great honor for us and a testament to the importance of this area of the law and the work we are doing in it," said Christopher Wolf, partner in Proskauer's Washington, D.C. office and chair of the firm's Privacy and Data Security Practice Group. "I would especially like to congratulate the lawyers at all levels throughout the firm who regularly contribute content to the blog and offer a special thanks to our senior editor and partner in Los Angeles, Tanya Forsheit, whose idea it was to undertake this endeavor in the first place.'
Proskauer's Privacy and Data Security Practice Group works with companies to help them understand and comply with the various laws that regulate the collection and sharing of personal data. The group also assists in the development of best practices that not only help businesses with legal compliance, but also identify them as having a genuine concern for personal privacy and the protection of private data.
The practice is an outgrowth of the firm's Internet, intellectual property, labor and employment, health law, First Amendment, international law, and litigation practices. Indicative of Proskauer's experience and reputation in this relatively new field of law is the fact that the venerable Practising Law Institute (PLI) asked the firm to create its first-ever treatise on the subject of privacy and data security law, "Proskauer on Privacy," which was published in 2006.
