Proskauer Rose Attorneys Elected to New York State Bar Association Executive Committee

April 12, 2007 - (New York, NY) - Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with over 700 lawyers worldwide, is proud to announce that two of its attorneys have been elected to the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Executive Committee. Claire P. Gutekunst, a partner in Proskauer's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, was elected a Vice President, and Peter J.W. Sherwin, partner and chair of the firm's International Arbitration Practice, was reelected an At-Large Member of the Executive Committee. Both will assume their roles June 1. 

Ms. Gutekunst and Mr. Sherwin have a long history of involvement with NYSBA and have been members of the organization's Executive Committee in addition to serving as members and leaders of a number of committees. Ms. Gutekunst is currently chair of NYSBA's Membership Committee and has served as chair of the organization's Committee on Women in the Law and the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee. Mr. Sherwin has served as chair of NYSBA's Special Committee on Collateral Consequences of Criminal Proceedings and Civil Rights Committee.

At Proskauer, Ms. Gutekunst represents corporations and individuals in complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution in a broad range of substantive areas, from breach of contract and fraud to class actions and bankruptcy disputes. In addition to her involvement with NYSBA, she is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, a member of the organization's National Task Force on Diversity in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and a member of the ADR Advisory Group for the Commercial Division of the New York State Supreme Court. She also heads the YWCA-NYC Academy of Women Leaders and recently received the Mary Rousmaniere Gordon Award from the YWCA of New York City for her service to the organization.

Mr. Sherwin represents corporate entities and individuals in a variety of substantive areas, with a concentration on cross-border disputes regarding high-stakes private investments or sophisticated financial products. He also serves as a member of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Advisory Committee on the Judiciary and on the Board of Directors of Citizens Union, New York City's preeminent good government organization.
