Former Assistant U.S. Attorney, Supreme Court Clerk & Talmudic Scholar to Handle Commercial Litigation, White Collar Criminal Defense Matters
March 27, 2006 - (New York, NY) - Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with more than 700 lawyers in the United States and Europe, today announced that Mark D. Harris, a seasoned litigator with a stellar and varied legal background, will join the firm's Litigation Department as senior counsel, resident in the New York office.
Mr. Harris recently completed his Bachelor's Degree in Talmudic Law from Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah at the Talmudic Research Institute, an achievement that followed a remarkable career that included serving for five years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, clerking for two U.S. Supreme Court justices, John Paul Stevens and Lewis F. Powell, Jr., and a judge of the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Joel M. Flaum.
According to firm chairman Allen I. Fagin, the breadth of Mark's experience makes him a prize addition.
"Mark is a valuable addition to the firm and our rapidly growing litigation practice. His unique background and experience made him a highly sought-after lawyer and we are proud to welcome him to the firm," said Mr. Fagin.
While a U.S. attorney, Mr. Harris was lead counsel on numerous jury trials, including a multimillion-dollar fraudulent financial embezzlement case and a corporate embezzlement case, among many others. He left the U.S. Attorney's office in 2002 to enroll in Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah to study the Talmud and its commentaries, with a focus on civil and religious law.
"While Mark's choices can certainly be described as the 'road less traveled' for a young and talented attorney, they're also to be commended," said Louis M. Solomon, co-chair of Proskauer's Litigation Department. "His insight and perspective will be invaluable to us as we continue to pursue the complicated and diverse caseload that defines the success of our Litigation Department."
Mr. Harris graduated from Harvard Law School, where he was Supervising Editor of Harvard Law Review, and Harvard College. He is also a member of the Board of Editors of the Federal Sentencing Reporter and a frequent contributor.
