September 22, 2005 - (Los Angeles, CA) - Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with over 650 lawyers in the U.S. and Europe, will be honored for its pro bono efforts on behalf of the Los Angeles Leadership Academy, a local charter school, at an awards dinner on September 28, 2005. Bert Deixler, head of Proskauer's Los Angeles office and a partner in the firm's Litigation Department, and Tom Dollinger, a partner in the firm's Corporate Department, will accept the award on behalf of Proskauer.
Serving on a pro bono basis as the Academy's general counsel, Proskauer has provided advice on a number of matters in connection with the school's mission of educating urban secondary students, who are among the poorest in Southern California, and providing them with the resources they need to successfully pursue a college education or career path of their choice. This work has involved achieving tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board and advising on real estate matters, including leases for the Academy's facilities. Proskauer has also advised the Academy on employment, immigration and regulatory issues.
In addition to Proskauer's award, Academy board member Rick Rosen, founding partner of the leading talent agency, Endeavor, and his wife, Hope, will receive recognition for their work in fundraising and assistance with the school's literacy program, respectively.
