Proskauer’s Betsy Plevan and Robin Painter Recognized in Euromoney's Inaugural 2012 American Women in Business Law Awards

May 29, 2012 (New York) – Proskauer International Labor & Employment Group co-head Betsy Plevan has been named a winner of the 2012 “Best in Labor & Employment” in Euromoney Legal Media Group’s inaugural American Women in Business Law Awards. Additionally, Robin Painter, co-Chair of Proskauer’s Corporate Department and global co-head of the firm’s Private Investment Funds Group, has been named to the American Women in Business Law Awards shortlist as “Best in Investment Funds.”

 

A Partner in Proskauer’s Labor & Employment Department, co-head of the firm’s national Class/Collective Action Group and former member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Ms. Plevan has built her practice handling all types of labor and employment litigation, as well as counseling clients in employment matters. In addition to maintaining her active practice, she recently completed a two-year term as President of the New York City Bar Association. She has handled both single plaintiff and class action lawsuits involving issues of discrimination, harassment and employee benefits matters and has successfully tried a number of jury and non-jury cases in New York and elsewhere in the United States. Her trial work has been recognized by her induction as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Ms. Plevan has also argued more than 50 appeals in state and federal courts and has been elected a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.

 

Ms. Painter has been recognized for her achievements in the private equity and venture capital industry. The majority of her practice involves representing sponsors in structuring private investment funds and funds of funds and representing U.S. and global institutional investors and investment advisors in the private equity field. Over the past two years, she has managed teams of lawyers in fund structuring projects with capital commitments of well over $10 billion, in addition to advising clients on significant secondary transactions, spin-outs and restructurings. Ms. Painter has been named one of the “30 most influential lawyers in global private equity” by Private Equity International and is frequently recognized as a leader in the private equity field by national and global publications, including Chambers USA, where she received a Star ranking.

The Euromoney Legal Media Group’s American Women in Business Law Awards celebrates the women leading the field in the legal sector across the United States. The group’s roster of publications includes International Financial Law Review (IFLR), IFLR 1000, Benchmark: Litigation, Managing Intellectual Property and International Tax Review, among others.
