January 30, 2015 (New York) – Global law firm Proskauer hosted the Posse Veterans Program’s 2015 awards ceremony. The Posse Veterans Program teams up with institutions of higher education to support post-9/11 U.S. military veterans who exemplify promise and leadership, by providing full-tuition leadership scholarships.
The Posse Veterans Program partnered with Vassar College and Wesleyan University to supplement available GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon funding in order to guarantee full tuition for 20 qualified veteran students, or “cohorts.” The cohorts were selected from among 600 applicants around the country and will each attend either Vassar or Wesleyan on full scholarship this fall.
The awards ceremony included remarks from Posse Foundation president and founder Debbie Bial, as well as from Vassar College president Catherine Bond Hill.
The Veterans Program began in 2013 with a group of ten veterans who attended Vassar College. Dartmouth College has joined the program and will enroll their first cohort in fall 2016, and the Posse Foundation hopes to expand the program to more elite colleges in the near future.
The Posse Foundation is one of the most comprehensive college access, diversity and youth leadership development programs in the country. The foundation has identified, recruited and trained more than 5,500 extraordinary public high school students to become Posse Scholars since 1989. Proskauer has partnered with the Posse Foundation as part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility initiative, which focuses on giving back in the areas of education and veterans affairs.
