| Biography:
William Yonge is a partner in the London office of Proskauer Rose LLP, where his practice focuses on all aspects of financial services law, regulation and alternative investment funds including hedge funds and private equity funds.
William advises a range of investment firms active in the alternative asset industry including asset managers, corporate financiers, hedge and private equity firms, on issues of financial services law, securities regulation and the application of the EU financial services directives. He has advised many firms on how to establish their business in the UK and obtain regulatory approval. William also advises sponsors on the structuring, establishment and marketing of a range of investment vehicles including hedge funds, private equity funds, funds of funds, UCITS and UK authorised funds and the full spectrum of securities and regulatory issues associated with such transactions.
He advises regularly on the ongoing compliance obligations of regulated firms and areas such as insider dealing, market abuse and anti-money laundering legislation. To ensure our clients receive comprehensive U.S. advice, William collaborates closely with our U.S. offices.
William has over ten years’ experience in private practice advising clients in the alternative asset industry. After qualifying as a barrister and pupillage, William was an in-house lawyer at IMRO and The Securities and Investments Board (now the Financial Services Authority). He gained extensive experience in all aspects of regulatory issues, conducting disciplinary cases and advising internally and externally on the application of the Financial Services Act 1986, SIB regulations, IMRO rules and the EU financial services directives.
William is a member of the Securities & Investment Institute and has written articles on issues of financial services regulation and fund establishment and structuring. He is Legal Editor of the Journal of Financial Services Marketing. He was principal contributor to the Financial Services volume of The Encyclopedia of Forms and Precedents (Butterworths, 2002). William is mentioned in recent editions of Legal 500 and Legal Experts.
