| Biography:
Andrea Ascher is a partner in the Real Estate Department resident in our New York office. A recognized national leader in construction lending, Andrea has extensive experience in domestic and cross-border real estate finance, including construction, interim and permanent loans, sale-leasebacks, equity participating mortgage loans and other secured lending transactions, as well as extensive experience in workouts and restructuring of real estate transactions. She also has significant commercial retail leasing experience.
Andrea represents institutional lenders originating loans for their own portfolios and for the secondary markets in numerous complex transactions as well as purchasing and selling whole loans and component notes and handling intercreditor, co-lending, and participation agreements on multi-bank transactions for a wide range of properties. She also represents borrowers in connection with all types of real estate and mezzanine financings, including refinancings and workouts, and preferred equity.

a hedge fund on its acquisition of its Connecticut office headquarters and on all office leasing matters

a private developer on the construction and permanent financing and property development matters in connection with a residential project in the Williamsburg area of New York City

Deutsche Bank in its restructuring of approximately $100 million of mezzanine debt of a national boutique/specialty hotel owner-operator

Hypo Real Estate Capital as lead arranger and agent in connection with its syndicated construction loan financing of the Bloomberg building in New York City

Prudential Life Insurance Company in its mortgage loan financings of various office, retail and hotel properties located in New York and California

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in its $540 million refinancing of a regional mall in New Jersey

a major retail manufacturer on all of its real estate leasing matters

a public limited partnership in the development of its first equity participating mortgage product
- Citicorp in its:
- construction loan financing of South Street Seaport
- construction loan financing of the Federal Archives Building
- restructuring of approximately $.5 billion of debt of a national shopping center developer as part of a larger $8.5 billion multi-bank debt restructuring
- a regional enclosed shopping mall on all of its leasing, litigation and other legal matters
Andrea is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, a past chair of the New York State Bar Association Real Property Law Section Committee on Finance and Liens and a member of the Real Property Law Committee of the New York City Bar. Andrea is admitted to practice in New York, Georgia and the District of Columbia.
Listed in the Who’s Who of American Women (14th Edition), Andrea has lectured for the Practicing Law Institute, New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association and NYU Continuing Education on real estate finance, construction lending, defaulted loan and loan workouts and restructurings. She is recognized as a “New York Super Lawyer.”
Andrea is a graduate of Emory University School of Law and Cornell University.
