Biography:

Damian J. Martinez is an associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of Proskauer Rose’s Los Angeles office.

Since joining Proskauer Rose, Mr. Martinez has represented officers and directors of publicly-traded companies in connection with government investigations into stock options practices, insider trading, and tax shelters. Mr. Martinez has also represented clients in complex civil disputes involving claims for breach of contract, unfair business practices, and violations of securities law. In the past year, Mr. Martinez has also represented a client in a business dispute with a Colombian-based telecommunications company.

Prior to joining Proskauer Rose, Mr. Martinez was a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Martinez tried 10 federal trials to completion, including merchant fraud, complex money laundering, and international narcotics trafficking cases. Mr. Martinez conducted a broad range of successful investigations. Mr. Martinez was responsible for handling international matters in federal court, including responding to requests from foreign nations and the U.S. State Department to extradite fugitives to answer for crimes committed abroad. As a prosecutor, Mr. Martinez also briefed and argued numerous appeals before the Ninth Circuit.

Prior to his employment at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Martinez served as a law clerk for former U.S. District Judge Carlos R. Moreno, Central District of California (who is now an Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court), and worked as an associate at a Los Angeles-based law firm.

Mr. Martinez graduated from Columbia School of Law in 1998, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, a Property teaching fellow, and an articles editor for the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law. Mr. Martinez received his B.A. from UCLA, with honors, in philosophy in 1994.

Mr. Martinez was born and raised in southern California. He is proficient in Spanish.
