Navid Soleymani is an associate in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of Proskauer Rose LLP’s Los Angeles office.
Navid has a diverse commercial litigation practice involving complex matters in state and federal courts, and in private arbitration. He has extensive litigation experience in a wide range of industries, including the representation of financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, real estate developers, and non-for-profit entities. Navid was part of a team of Proskauer lawyers that successfully defended a generic pharmaceutical company against a putative nationwide class action involving antitrust and unfair competition law claims. More recently, he was the lead lawyer responsible for prosecuting claims for fraud and misrepresentation in federal court on behalf of a not-for-profit charity.
Navid’s practice also has focused on representing clients in the entertainment industry, such as recording artists, managers and agents, and content owners and distributors. He has prosecuted and defended numerous cases involving intellectual property claims, including trademark and copyright infringement, as well as claims regarding the right of publicity, defamation, Talent Agency Act violations, and privacy. He is a co-author of a chapter entitled “State Privacy Laws” in the Proskauer on Privacy treatise, recently published by the Practising Law Institute.
Following law school, Navid was a law clerk to Judge David Thompson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He received his J.D. from the University of Southern California in 2001 where he graduated with Order of the Coif honors. While at USC Law School, he was a member of the Southern California Law Review, and authored “Legislature Takes Aim At California’s Higher Gas Prices: Misguided Measures to Increase Competition in the California Retail Gasoline Market.” 74 S. Cal. L. Rev. 1395 (2001).
He received his B.A. in Business-Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude in 1996. He was awarded the Highest Departmental Honors by the Economics Department for his thesis, “Competition and Innovation in the Semiconductor Industry: Implications for Antitrust Policy.”
Prior to law school, Navid served as a legislative aide and press secretary to State Senator K. Rainey in Sacramento, California; he was responsible for developing and staffing Senator Rainey's legislative package in the areas of business and taxation, transportation, and criminal justice.
Navid is admitted to the California Bar and the U.S. District Court, California, Central and Southern Districts.
