Biography:

Jennifer A. Camacho is a partner in the Patent Law, Intellectual Property and Life Sciences Groups at Proskauer Rose LLP.

Ms. Camacho’s practice is focused on providing strategic intellectual property counseling aligned with specific business objectives of the client. She has extensive experience working with clients in leveraging intellectual property for competitive advantage; building commercially-relevant patent portfolios; navigating through prior art and third party intellectual property rights; and identifying opportunities to capture value from intellectual property through strategic business relationships. Ms. Camacho's practice includes worldwide patent and trademark portfolio development; intellectual property due diligence; patent infringement and validity analyses; patentability and product clearance studies; licensing and related transactional matters such as joint development, sponsored research and acquisition; patent interference proceedings; litigation; arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution.

Ms. Camacho has extensive experience in counseling clients in the life sciences industry, including venture fund and early-stage biotechnology clients. Representative fields of research and development for Ms. Camacho’s clients include synthetic biology, industrial enzymes, biofuels, pharmaceuticals, nucleic acid synthesis and sequencing, tissue engineering, immunotherapy, pediatric medicine, diagnostic assays, endoscopic instruments and medical lasers.

Prior to joining Proskauer, Ms. Camacho was chief patent counsel and vice president of intellectual property at a leading New England biotech company in the emerging field of synthetic biology. In that role, she was responsible for the strategic development and implementation of the company’s intellectual property portfolio. In addition, Ms. Camacho worked closely with the company’s research and development group, structuring third party collaborative relationships and providing intellectual property guidance in connection with the company’s product development initiatives across a wide variety of market applications. As a member of the company’s executive management team, Ms. Camacho also provided cross-functional, hands-on general counsel throughout the organization.

Previously, Ms. Camacho was an associate in Proskauer’s Patent Law Group. She received her J.D. from Boston College Law School and B.S. in cell and structural biology from the University of Illinois. She is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts and the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts. She also is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Ms. Camacho is a member of the Boston College Law School Business Advisory Council, which advises the Dean and faculty of the law school on the latest trends in the business world and emerging business needs. She has published articles in technical and legal journals and is a frequent speaker on patent-related topics. Ms. Camacho’s legal publications include “Gene Patents: Testing the Limits,” Intellectual Property Observer (Summer 2002): 1–2; “Navigating the Complicated Terrain of Joint Ownership,” Intellectual Property Observer (Summer 2001): 3–4 (with K.F.
