| Biography:
Michael J. Album is a partner in the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group and is also a member of the firm’s International Labor and Employment Group. He represents companies and Boards (including Compensation Committees); private equity and hedge funds; and CEOs, senior executives and management groups (in numerous business sectors) on a full range of executive compensation matters.
For more than 20 years, Michael has advised clients on issues related to foreign business acquisitions/dispositions; offshore workforce restructurings; foreign outsourcing, “seconding,” and transition arrangements; and executive compensation and expatriate benefit matters. As a member of the firm’s business employment group, Michael is experienced in analyzing business operations and transactions, and advising employers, private equity funds and other buyers of businesses on various ways to reduce labor risks and costs, including “contingent workforce” issues.
Michael is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Yale Law Journal. Following law school, Michael clerked for Chief Judge William B. Bryant of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Michael has served on the Board of Directors of the Yale Law School Fund, and served as co-chairman of his 20th Reunion Class Campaign for the Yale Law School Fund. He received his B.A., summa cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa distinction, from Tufts University.
Michael’s articles have appeared in The Business Lawyer, New York Law Journal, Employment Relations Today, Venture Capital Review and other legal publications and he co-authored the chapter, "Compensation Issues for Management in an MBO," in the recent publication, Human Capital in Private Equity (Private Equity International Books). Michael is the co-author of The Employment Law Compliance Handbook (Executive Enterprises Publications) and co-editor of New York State Employment Laws and Regulations (Business Council of New York State). He has also been featured in interviews in Private Equity Manager on topics relating to private equity compensation and portfolio company matters. Michael has been recognized as one of New York’s “Super Lawyers” and as one of the “Lawdragon 500 New Stars.”
Michael’s professional associations include the American Bar Association and the New York City Bar. He has served as an Arbitrator, American Arbitration Association (Commercial Panel), and as Chairman of the Subcommittee on International Employee Benefits, Section of International Law and Practice, American Bar Association. Michael is a member of the Bars of New York and the District of Columbia.
