| Biography:
Lawrence R. Sandak is a partner in Proskauer Rose LLP's Labor and Employment
Law Department, residing in the Firm's Newark, New Jersey office. He has more
than twenty years of employment law experience. The most recent edition of Chambers
USA lists Larry among the leading employment lawyers in New Jersey.
As a trial lawyer and civil litigator, Larry defends employers accused of discrimination,
retaliation, sexual harassment, breach of contract, and wage and hour violations
before courts and government agencies. He also has substantial experience in
arbitrating, mediating and negotiating the settlement of employment disputes.
Larry advises his clients on all aspects of the employer-employee relationship,
including the creation of sensible personnel and benefit policies and the preparation
of employment contracts, policy manuals and employee handbooks. He is frequently
called upon to conduct or supervise internal investigations of alleged employee
misconduct, including sexual harassment, and to recommend appropriate responses.
He has guided his clients through significant reductions-in-force and business
closures.
Larry's clients include Amerada Hess, AT&T, Bank Hapoalim, Bear Stearns,
General Electric, NBC-Universal, and Prudential Financial.
Larry was an adjunct professor of law at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law,
where he taught litigation and advocacy skills. He has lectured and written
extensively on employment law issues for practicing lawyers and human resources
professionals. His writings include "Recurring Ethical Issues In Employment
Discrimination Litigation," Practising Law Institute (1998), and
"Severance Benefit Plans: Administration, Modification and Termination,"
Proceedings of New York University Forty-fourth Annual National Conference
on Labor (1991). Larry is also the Senior Editor of "How To Make Immigration
Law Work For Your Business," U.S. Chamber of Commerce (2005).
Larry has been a commentator for Court TV, CNN and CNBC, discussing employment
discrimination, sexual harassment and personnel management issues, and for the
CBS News coverage of the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings.
A member of the Bars of New Jersey and New York, Larry has practiced before
the United States Supreme Court and numerous trial and appellate-level courts.
He has conducted or supervised litigation and administrative proceedings throughout
the country. Larry is a member of the American Bar Association (sections on
Litigation and Labor Law), and the New Jersey State Bar Association (Labor Section).
Larry is a graduate of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York
(B.A.1975) and Brooklyn Law School (J.D. 1978), where he served as an editor
of the Brooklyn Law Review.
