Biography:

Avram Morell joined Proskauer Rose LLP as an associate in the Firm's Labor and Employment Law Department, specializing in immigration law and litigation. Avi's experience includes a wide range of areas of immigration and nationality law, including counseling businesses in the hiring of foreign employees; obtaining immigrant and non-immigrant visas for professionals in a variety of industries; assisting employers in complying with the I-9 verification requirements; persuading the government to waive the two-year home country residence requirement for certain J-1 visa holders; and litigating complex political asylum and Convention Against Torture cases. He also has experience in civil and matrimonial litigation. Avi was named an “Associate to Watch” in the 2007 edition of Chambers USA.

Avi is a graduate of Yeshiva University, cum laude, where he studied political science. He received his law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was a Samuel Belkin Scholar. While at Cardozo, Avi represented indigent clients at the Bet Tzedek Legal Services Clinic and participated in the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. He clerked for the Honorable Karla Moskowitz of the New York Supreme Court in New York City, who heard civil and matrimonial cases.

Avi is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey State and Federal courts as well as in the courts of New York State. He is the author of articles on areas of immigration law in state-wide, national and international publications, and he has contributed to Immigration Law and Procedure, the leading treatise on immigration law. Avi is fluent in Hebrew.
