Jonathan Rich is senior counsel in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of Proskauer Rose’s Los Angeles office. In over twenty-five years of practice, Jonathan has represented clients in a wide range of matters, including complex commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense, in state and federal courts and in proceedings before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the American Arbitration Association and JAMS mediation services.
Jonathan has defended companies and individual executives in SEC enforcement actions, securities fraud class actions, federal and state criminal prosecutions, regulatory investigations, as well as internal investigations concerning claims of securities fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations and other related matters.
Jonathan has also represented clients in a broad range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract, copyright and trademark infringement, licensing, trade secrets, unfair competition, product liability, royalty accounting, wrongful termination and executive compensation, in such diverse industries as telecommunications, entertainment, pharmaceuticals, health and wellness products, hotel condominium sales and hospitality management. He has also represented clients in trust and estate administration disputes.
Jonathan has extensive appellate experience, as well, representing clients before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals and various state appellate courts. In 2004, Jonathan was a member of the Proskauer team that represented the Republic of Austria and the Austrian National Gallery in the U.S. Supreme Court in a case of first impression under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act.
After beginning his legal career at the law firm of Hughes Hubbard & Reed in New York, Jonathan served as staff attorney with the Criminal Defense Division of The Legal Aid Society of New York, where he represented indigent clients in all aspects of criminal defense, including numerous felony and misdemeanor trials in Manhattan Criminal Court. Before coming to Proskauer Rose, Jonathan was Of Counsel to McCambridge, Deixler & Marmaro LLP in Los Angeles.
Jonathan is admitted to the Bar of the State of California, the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Second, Third and Ninth Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, and several U.S. District Courts in California, New York and Pennsylvania.
Jonathan received his J.D. from the University of Chicago and his B.A., cum laude, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
