| Biography:
Seth B. Schafler is a partner and practice leader in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department of Proskauer Rose LLP.
Seth has extensive experience representing policyholders in coverage negotiations and disputes with their insurance companies, and litigating coverage issues in federal and state courts across the country. His experience covers a wide variety of insurance products including commercial general liability, directors and officers, professional liability, errors and omissions, fiduciary liability, property, business interruption, fidelity, marine and credit risk insurance, among others.
Seth represented the lessees of the World Trade Center in the litigation involving their insurance claims for property and business interruption resulting from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He also represents, or has represented, many major U.S. and international corporations including AT&T, Bausch & Lomb, Bed Bath & Beyond, Bovis Lend Lease Holdings, Cooper Union, Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, Gristedes, Henry Schein, International Paper Company, JPMorgan Chase, Keystone Shipping Company, LucentTechnologies, Neuberger Berman Group, The New York Times, Omnicom Group, The Philadelphia Eagles, Philip Morris Companies, PPL Corporation and Reynolds Metals and Take-Two Interactive Software.
Seth is ranked as a leading insurance/dispute resolution litigator by professional directories such as Chambers USA, US Legal 500, and New York Super Lawyers. According to Chambers USA, clients and peers recognize Seth for “getting in the trenches with his clients and winning over his opponents.” Seth is a prolific author and speaker. He has published articles in many journals and was a contributing columnist to Risk & Insurance Magazine. Seth has served as a faculty member in numerous insurance-related courses and seminars for the Practicing Law Institute and other organizations. Seth serves on the editorial advisory board of InsuranceLaw 360. He is a member of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York and of the New York State Bar Association, and is admitted to the New York and Missouri State Bars, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Seth earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago and his J.D., cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor of the Law Review. After graduating from law school, Seth served as a judicial clerk in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
