| Biography:
Tom Moore is a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department,
based in New York. Tom graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University
of California, Berkeley, in 1981. He clerked in the United States District Court,
and was a prosecutor for six years. Tom concentrates in the trial of complex
civil and criminal cases.
On the civil side, Tom has handled a very diverse range of cases, including
numerous trademark and patent disputes; construction litigation on behalf of
The New York Times, Anchor Architectural, the Hotel Carlyle and others; litigation regarding the dissolution of
a $460 million partnership; the defense of securities class actions; defending
a major sports league against a civil RICO claim; and contested hearings in
the Bankruptcy Court in several major cases. Tom has made extensive use of cutting
edge computer technology, including conducting "paperless" trials
in international, as well as state and federal courts (in which all the evidence,
from documents to video-taped depositions, was digitized and instantly accessible
for use in direct and cross-examination). He frequently lectures on the use
of such trial techniques.
Tom dedicates a substantial portion of his practice to criminal defense and
investigative work. He was senior investigative counsel to the District Attorney
of New York County prior to joining Proskauer Rose LLP in 1989. There he prosecuted
intricate white-collar cases, and has defended many such cases since joining
the Firm. Among the criminal cases Tom has defended were an individual accused
of defrauding a Fortune 500 company of over $400 million; brokers and brokerage
firms accused of stock manipulations in New York state and federal courts; an
individual accused of an invoicing scheme in which $27 million of allegedly
phony paper was processed through his business; allegations of illegal arms
exports against a corporation; a four-year antitrust investigation of a multibillion
dollar publicly traded company; many cases of alleged stock manipulation; and
Securities and Exchange Commission investigations of alleged insider trading
and similar offenses.
Tom enjoys gardening with his three children; it is just a coincidence that
the youngest is named "Lily."
