| Biography:
Past long-standing Chair of Proskauer Rose LLP's Health Care Law Department, Ed Kornreich is a recognized authority on the legal, regulatory and business issues related to health care services. Ed works primarily on health care transactions, regulatory
compliance and health care payment issues for varied providers (both for-profit
and not-for-profit), HMOs, pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies,
pharmacy benefit management companies and entrepreneurs. He also counsels providers
on issues related to research, technology transfer and governance. His approach
combines sensitivity to meeting business goals with a comprehensive and realistic
assessment of the health care environment, and he is particularly experienced
in dealing with the complex issues related to integrated health care systems.
Upon graduating from Harvard Law School, Ed worked for the Legal Aid Society.
He then entered private practice, where he helped represent a major public hospital
corporation in a series of reimbursement disputes with the state and federal
governments, and counseled New York area hospitals and nursing homes on reimbursement
and operational issues. Thereafter, Ed served as General Counsel of St. Luke's-Roosevelt
Hospital Center, one of the largest teaching hospitals in New York. After leaving
St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Ed joined Proskauer as a partner in 1990.
Ed frequently writes and lectures on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, health
care integration, not-for-profit law and corporate governance issues, and the
application of federal and state anti-kickback and "Stark" laws to
health care transactions. He is a past Chair of the Health Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and a longstanding member of its AIDS Committee (1986-1997). He is past Chair of the Providers’ Committee, and current Chair-Elect of the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Ed has been listed as one of the Best Lawyers in America,
for more than 12 years and is AV rated in Martindale-Hubbell. He has also been
rated in the first tier of leading individuals in Health Care by Chambers
and is recognized as a Super Lawyer. He was also named one of
the 40 Health Care Lawyers Who Have Made Their Mark by the National
Law Journal, and was recognized as one of the Outstanding Fraud and
Compliance Lawyers of 2004 in Nightingales Healthcare News.
