Biography:

Past long-standing Chair of Proskauer Rose LLP's Health Care Law Department, Ed Kornreich is a recognized authority on the legal, regulatory and business issues related to health care services. Ed works primarily on health care transactions, regulatory compliance and health care payment issues for varied providers (both for-profit and not-for-profit), HMOs, pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, pharmacy benefit management companies and entrepreneurs. He also counsels providers on issues related to research, technology transfer and governance. His approach combines sensitivity to meeting business goals with a comprehensive and realistic assessment of the health care environment, and he is particularly experienced in dealing with the complex issues related to integrated health care systems.

Upon graduating from Harvard Law School, Ed worked for the Legal Aid Society. He then entered private practice, where he helped represent a major public hospital corporation in a series of reimbursement disputes with the state and federal governments, and counseled New York area hospitals and nursing homes on reimbursement and operational issues. Thereafter, Ed served as General Counsel of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, one of the largest teaching hospitals in New York. After leaving St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Ed joined Proskauer as a partner in 1990.

Ed frequently writes and lectures on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, health care integration, not-for-profit law and corporate governance issues, and the application of federal and state anti-kickback and "Stark" laws to health care transactions. He is a past Chair of the Health Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and a longstanding member of its AIDS Committee (1986-1997).  He is past Chair of the Providers’ Committee, and current Chair-Elect of the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Ed has been listed as one of the “Best Lawyers in America,” for more than 12 years and is AV rated in Martindale-Hubbell. He has also been rated in the first tier of leading individuals in Health Care by Chambers and is recognized as a “Super Lawyer.” He was also named one of the “40 Health Care Lawyers Who Have Made Their Mark” by the National Law Journal, and was recognized as one of the “Outstanding Fraud and Compliance Lawyers of 2004” in Nightingale’s Healthcare News.
