Biography:

Bob Kaufman's vast experience in the public and private sectors, and his forty years of legal practice with Proskauer Rose LLP, have given him special depth in the areas of health and hospital law, multinational corporate law and personal representation.

As a member of the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, followed by several years in the United States Senate as Legislative Assistant to Senator Javits, Bob Kaufman brings a broad public policy perspective to his partnership at Proskauer. He has helped to change the face of health and hospital law by his work on the restructuring of New York non-profit hospital groups and on the legislative development of the New York hospital reimbursement system. He also spearheaded the first large hospital law department in a New York general practice firm.

Bob has been a strategist in major corporate acquisitions in the United States and Canada by the Pirelli Group; he was Chair of the Board of the Pirelli Group's United States companies in the cable and tire industries.

He is also Chairman of the Board of Old Westbury Funds, Inc., a mutual fund group advised by Bessemer Trust Company.

He has represented a family group and its personal holding company for three generations. He is also active in the representation of foundations and other non-profit organizations.

He is the author of various Bar Committee publications and co-editor of the widely praised four-volume Health Care Law Treatise, which was published by Matthew Bender in August, 1991.

Bob's extensive involvement in civic, professional and non-profit organizations includes being President of the American Judicature Society; President and Executive Committee Chair of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York; Chair of the New York State Board of Public Disclosure; member of the Executive Committees of The Legal Aid Society, Volunteers of Legal Services and New York Lawyers for the Public Interest; Executive Committee member of the West Point Board of Visitors, member of the Chief of Staff's Special Commission on the Honor Code at West Point and member of the Defense Department Advisory Committee on Women in the Services; member of the Administrative Conference of the United States and Chair of its Committee on Regulation; Vice Chairman of the New York Community Trust; and member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS.
