| Biography:
Alan S. Jaffe is the past Chairman and Managing Partner of Proskauer
Rose LLP.
Prior to becoming Chairman of the Firm, he spent most of his time engaged
in collective bargaining negotiations and in counseling clients on strategic
labor law considerations affecting corporate mergers and acquisitions. While
Alan has counseled clients in a variety of industries, including health care,
publishing, manufacturing and human services, a significant portion of his time
was concentrated in the entertainment industry where he represented many of
New York's premiere institutions.
Alan is an honors graduate of Cornell University and Columbia Law School,
where he was an editor of the Columbia Law Review. Alan has long been
listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law,
and The Best Lawyers in America.
As a volunteer, Alan spent 25 years working on behalf of a variety of social service organizations. He is currently Chairman of the Board of The Educational Alliance – a communal organization serving 40,000 persons a year in Downtown Manhattan. He is also Vice-Chairman of NYLAG – the New York Legal Assistance Group – a public interest law firm serving 36,000 clients a year. Alan is a member of the Executive Committee and Board of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Alan also has served as a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia Law School. From 1992-1995, Alan was President of UJA-Federation of New York, the largest local philanthropy of its kind in the world, whose beneficiaries serve nearly four million persons annually in New York and Israel. He remains on the Board of that organization. Alan is a past Executive Committee and Board member of the United Jewish Communities, the American Jewish Committee, the Council of Jewish Federations, and the Jewish Agency for Israel, and also a past member of the Executive Committee and Board of Beth Israel Medical Center, where he chaired its legal committee. Alan also has served as a mayoral appointee to the Board of Directors of the New York Sports Development Corporation, the New York City Public/Private Initiatives, Inc., and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.
