A partner in Proskauer Rose LLP's Real Estate Department, Elana Butler joined the firm in 1994. With over 25 years of experience, Lani has represented clients in a broad range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions and sales of fee and leasehold interests in office buildings and retail facilities, joint ventures, permanent and construction loan financings, commercial leasing, representing both landlords and tenants.

Lani has represented developers in both the acquisition and financing of properties in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area and in their structuring of the companies in which the developers hold an interest. She also represents several clients in their leasing activities, including retail leasing for Vornado Realty Trust, one of New York City's largest REITs. Lani represented The Lefrak Organization in its leasing to Chase Manhattan Bank of two buildings, aggregating over 1,000,000 square feet, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She also represented a wholly owned subsidiary of The Limited, Inc., in connection with its acquisition and leasing activities at Newport Office Tower in Jersey City, New Jersey.

In addition, Lani has substantial experience representing tenants in leasing transactions, both in existing buildings and in buildings under construction, including Citibank N.A.'s New York area leasing activities.

Lani has been representing DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners in acquisitions and financings of development properties, including mixed-use projects and hotel properties, such as the acquisition, financing and subsequent sale of Skamania Lodge, a resort in Washington State. In addition, Lani has represented Club Med in its acquisition of a ski resort in Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado. She has also represented several developers, including Vornado, in connection with portfolio-wide telecommunications agreements with telecom providers.

Lani also recently represented a residential developer in the acquisition and financing of property in New York City to be converted to condominium ownership, and in the construction financing for development of a luxury condominium project in New Jersey.

Lani received her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1980 and her undergraduate degree from Barnard College in 1976.
