| Biography:
Al is a summa cum laude graduate of Williams College. He joined Proskauer
Rose LLP directly upon graduation from Yale Law School and has been
Resident Partner directing the Firm's Florida office since it was established
in 1977. Al currently serves as a member of the Firms seven-person Executive
Committee. He also served on the Executive Committee from January 1995 to January
1998 and was the first and only member of the Committee from outside of New
York.
Al is a member of both the New York and Florida Bars and has built an extensive
practice counseling individuals and families of high net worth regarding estate,
personal, charitable and financial planning. This includes guidance in areas
of gift, estate and generation-skipping tax planning. Al has in-depth experience
in the administration of complicated estates and trusts. He also has extensive
experience in representing charitable organizations and has worked with public
charities in setting up planned giving programs. Al has been selected by Chambers
USA as one of the leading attorneys in his field.
Clients frequently call upon Al for counsel regarding change of domicile to
Florida. This has become an increasingly important issue as many northern states,
faced with unprecedented budget deficits, aggressively seek to recoup income
and estate tax from former residents who have moved to Florida. Responding to
Al's judgment and skill, clients frequently have engaged him to serve as their
personal representative and trustee.
Al has been active in a broad range of charitable activities. He serves as an
officer and is a member of the Board of the Jewish Federation of South Palm
Beach County and the Jewish Community Foundation, and has served on the Board
of Temple Beth El of Boca Raton. He currently serves as Vice President and is
a member of the Board of the American Jewish Committee. He served for many years
as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Boca Raton Community Hospital Foundation,
Inc. and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Boca Raton Community Hospital.
In recognition of these and other community activities, Al was the recipient
of the Silver Medallion Brotherhood Award by the National Conference of Christians
and Jews in 1994, the Tree of Life Award by the Jewish National Fund in 1996
and the Centennial Edition of the Judge Learned Hand Award from the American
Jewish Committee in 2006.
