Silver Scholar Program

The Silver Scholar Program is an award initiative designed to increase diversity within our firm and the legal profession. The award is named after Edward Silver, the first elected Chairman of Proskauer and a premier labor lawyer of his time. The program reflects and is an outgrowth of Ed's lifelong commitment to diversity and equal opportunity.

Description of Program

The selected student will receive a summer associate position at Proskauer and be eligible for a cash award of up to $30,000 payable in installments. First and second-year law students can apply.

 

1L Applicants 2L Applicants

To receive the entire award, the student must:
  • accept an offer to participate in the summer associate program;
  • successfully complete the summer associate program during their 1L summer;
  • return for at least two weeks of their 2L summer; and
  • receive and accept an offer to join our firm as an associate

Eligibility

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Member of a historically underrepresented group in the legal profession, including, law students who are members of racial and/or ethnic minority groups, are differently abled, or are from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds 

  • Enrollment in a full-time program at an ABA-accredited law school
  • Outstanding undergraduate and law school academic achievement
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Active involvement in the community

Application

The online application process will ask for the following materials:

  • Resume
  • Undergraduate and law school transcripts
  • A persuasive legal writing sample
  • A personal statement of not more than 500 words that address the following questions:
    • Why is diversity important to you?
    • How have you been a leader and advanced diversity in your community?
    • How can diversity be improved in the legal profession?
  • The names of three (3) references who can attest to the applicant's character and work and/or academic performance

In addition to the above materials, the applicant may submit or the selection committee may request a recommendation letter in support of the application. Please note that the entire application must be completed in order to qualify. Students selected for further consideration will be asked to meet with members of our selection committee.

  • February 1, 2015 for 1L applicants
  • September 1, 2015 for 2L applicants
