Betsy Plevan Elected Co-Chair of the Board of Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law

June 10, 2010 (New York) - Betsy Plevan was elected Co-Chair Elect of the Board of Directors and Trustees of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law by the unanimous vote of its Executive Committee. Her two-year term will start on September 1, 2010.

Betsy, a Partner in the Labor & Employment Law Department, is co-head of both the International Labor & Employment Group and Class/Collective Action Group, and a member of the firm’s seven-person Executive Committee. She has argued more than 50 appeals in state and federal courts and has been elected a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Her trial work has been recognized by her induction as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

She recently completed a two-year term as President of the New York City Bar and is a member of the ABA Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. She is also a Director Emeritus of New York Lawyers for the Public Interest.

The Lawyers’ Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to involve the private bar in providing legal services to address racial discrimination. Its principal mission is to secure, through the rule of law, equal justice under law.
